The NSW Electoral Commission will be conducting a seminar for prospective Councillors. The seminar is open to anyone who wishes to attend.
As a candidate for election, you will have obligations and responsibilities under law that you should be aware of. Even if you have been a candidate in the past, or are a Councillor seeking re-election, you should attend this seminar. Pre-registration is not required.
Major topics include:
- the election timetable
- who can be a candidate and how to nominate
- groups of candidates and political party names on ballot papers
- Mayoral elections
- campaigning, election advertising, "how to vote" material and public scrutiny of candidates
- complaints handling by NSWEC
- voting
- counting ballot papers
- scrutineering
- election funding obligations
