FAQs
Can I ask a question at Council meetings?Council has a Public Question Time segment at both of its monthly Ordinary meetings. It is scheduled early in the meeting and takes place after Confirmation of Minutes and Business Arising. The Mayor will ask if there are any questions from the public. You may then direct your questions to the Mayor, Councillors, or, through the Mayor, to staff. You won't be allowed to enter into debate with Councillors. Your questions will be answered at the meeting if possible, but if they require research, they may be taken on notice by the relevant staff or by Councillors. They will be recorded in the minutes of the meeting, so it will help with the accuracy of your questions if you can provide a written copy of these to the person recording the minutes.
