FAQs
Can I ask a question at Council meetings?Council has a segment for questions and statements from the gallery at its monthly Ordinary meetings. It is scheduled early in the meeting and takes place after Confirmation of Minutes and Business Arising. The Mayor will ask if there are any questions from the public about specific items listed in the business paper, or for general items. You may direct your questions to the Mayor. You won't be allowed to enter into debate with Councillors. Your questions will be answered at the meeting if possible, but if they require research, they may be taken on notice. They will be noted in the minutes of the meeting, so it will help with the accuracy of your questions if you can provide a written copy of these to the person recording the minutes.
