Can I cut down a tree on my property?

All native vegetation (including trees, shrubs and grasses) and other trees over 3m high require approval from Palerang Council to remove or lop.

There are exceptions to this, such as trees which are dangerous or are within a certain distance of dwellings or services. Even those trees or other plants not requiring a development application (DA) to remove, still require an inspection from Council.

Fines and other penalties for the illegal removal of vegetation range from $600 to $1.1m.

There is no fee payable for a DA relating to trees.
