The following information is provided to assist you in all matters relating to Companion Animals.

LOST DOGS

Have you lost a dog? Please contact Council to see if your dog has been collected by the Rangers. Any lost dogs taken in by Council's Rangers and not claimed are sent to the Queanbeyan Pound facility. You can check the list of animals currently being held at the Queanbeyan Pound by clicking on the following link www.qcc.nsw.gov.au/page.aspx?page=69

INFORMATION FOR DOG OWNERS IN NSW

Dog owners in NSW have a range of responsibilities under the Companion Animals Act. The Department of Local Government has produced a brochure which outlines:

  • Microchipping and Registration
  • Registration Cost
  • Updating your information
  • What to do when your dog is missing
  • Responsibilities of pet owners
  • Penalty notices issued under the Act.

DEALING WITH BARKING DOGS

Barking dogs can be a nuisance. The Department of Environment and Conservation has produced a brochure outlining ways in which you can look after your dog to prevent excessive barking. It explains the law applying to noise from dogs and provides information that is intended to make life better for dogs, dog owners and their neighbours.

If you are annoyed by the noise from your neighbour's dog, there are several things you can do:

  • Talk to the dog's owner
  • Contact a Community Justice Centre
  • Contact your Council
  • Seek a Noise Abatement Order

RESOLVING DISPUTES WITH NEIGHBOURS

If you have a complaint about a neighbour's dog or cat, you should first try talking to your neighbour about the problem. If this approach does not resolve the issue, the Community Justice Centre offers a range of services to help resolve conflicts.
