Changes to median strip parking requirements in Gibraltar St, Bungendore

Last modified: June 30, 2009 - 3:46 PM

Median parking is allowed in Gibraltar Street, Bungendore, along the centre for the full length of the street.

Motorists have been reversing from this parking into traffic, creating a hazard for other motorists and pedestrians.

According to the current Australian Road Rules, it is illegal to reverse the vehicle out of median parking. The current penalty for non-compliance is a fine of up to $2200.

To increase safety for traffic and pedestrians in Gibraltar Street, Bungendore, Council will erect signs at regular intervals along the median in the near future, advising drivers of the correct direction to exit median parking. Police will be enforcing this rule.
