Queanbeyan-Palerang roads given boost in NSW Government budget

Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council is excited to announce that the NSW Government has supplied funding for important arterial roads in Queanbeyan-Palerang.

“When Queanbeyan and Palerang were merged, the need for funding for our road network was immediately apparent. I have been lobbying the state and federal governments for further funding and am extremely pleased to see that Nerriga Road and Old Cooma Road in particular have received significant funding in this year’s state budget,” Council Administrator, Tim Overall said.

Shop local this Christmas in Bungendore and Braidwood

Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council approved funding of $17,500 towards the 2017 Shop Local campaign in Bungendore and Braidwood.

“Shopping local benefits your community. This campaign will give even more incentive to shop locally and also for your Christmas gifts,” Council Administrator, Tim Overall said.

“Council is driving this campaign in an effort to support local businesses. This project is part of Council’s strategic direction of a diverse, resilient and smart economy that creates choice and job opportunities.”

Workshops to develop Integrated Transport Strategy

Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council is holding a series of community workshops to help develop an Integrated Transport Strategy (ITS).

“The Strategy will provide direction for Council in the areas of transport, public transport networks and links, cycle networks and links, footpath networks and links, heavy vehicle management, future road planning and regional integration with the ACT and broader NSW,” Council Administrator, Tim Overall said.

Karabar Open Spaces project mosaic seats workshops

Join us on site for an hour or two and help mosaic some seats on 22-24 June 2017.

Council has successfully gained funding to improve local parks, meeting places and open spaces in Karabar. We would love to hear from residents who would like to get ‘hands-on’ and helping to create some new public art works to install around Karabar. The workshops will be held Thursday 22, Friday 23 and Saturday 24 June 2017 on the corner of Southbar and Candlebark Road, Queanbeyan. No previous mosaic experience is required.

Minor increase to Council rates, charges in 2017-18

Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council’s draft Revenue Policy shows that ratepayers will see minor increases to their rates and charges in 2017-18.

The draft Revenue Policy, which is now on public exhibition for 28 days, includes information on charges for general rates along with water, sewer and waste services.

$67m investment in capital projects for 2017-18

Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council is seeking community input on its draft Operational Plan for 2017-18 which includes more than $200m of expenditure, including $67m of capital works.

The Operational Plan includes Council’s detailed budget for 2017-18 financial year, which is predicted to deliver a $17,000 surplus.

Community Meetings in May

Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council will be holding three community meetings in May.

The meetings will be held in Bungendore on 3 May, Queanbeyan on 10 May following the Planning and Strategy Committee Meeting and in Braidwood on 17 May. All meetings begin at 6pm and finish at 8pm.

The Bungendore meeting will be at the Bungendore Council Chambers on Majara Street, the Queanbeyan meeting at the Queanbeyan Chambers on Crawford Street and the Braidwood meeting at the Braidwood Council Meeting room on Wallace Street.
