Extra funding for MR92 announcedLast modified: March 10, 2009 - 6:18 PM
The NSW Minister for Roads, Michael Daley, has announced that the Rees Government will provide an additional $15 million to complete the full 54-kilometre upgrade of Main Road 92 between Nowra and Nerriga. The original $80 million estimate for the project had risen to $95 million since the original budget was determined in 2000. Stage one, the 24 kilometres from Hames Road to Morton National Park, was finished in June 2007. Stage two, the nine kilometres from Bulee to Nerriga, is under way and expected to be open to traffic in mid 2009. This stage includes major improvements, widening, realigning and sealing to the existing steep and narrow section from Bulee Gap to the Endrick River. Earthworks and the new bridge near Bulee Gap are nearing completion and the 3.5km of new pavement was sealed before Christmas 2008. The extra funding will now enable Stage three to proceed which will complete the sealing of the entire road length between Nowra and Nerriga. The contract to complete the final stage had been awarded to NACE Civil Engineering Pty Ltd. This will deliver 20 kilometres of upgraded road from Tianjara Falls to Billy's Hill near Bulee Gap. It will improve the steep incline east of Sassafras and link the first two stages of work. Motorists are advised to drive carefully throughout the construction area and also on the remaining section of gravel road as the road conditions are variable. Particular care should be taken in wet weather as the unsealed sections of the road can be slippery and suitable only for 4WD vehicles.
